Two-year-old Advika Bhattarai was diagnosed with Beta Thalassemia Major, a severe inherited blood disorder that required her to receive blood transfusions every 21 days, with doctors advising that the frequency would increase as she grew older. A bone marrow transplant was identified as her only long-term treatment option. As no fully matched donor was available, her mother became a half-matched (haploidentical) donor for the transplant.
The family faced significant financial challenges in meeting the high cost of treatment at Narayana Hospital, Bengaluru, India. To support Advika's life-saving treatment, Anuprastha Foundation launched a social media fundraising campaign alongside fundraising efforts by her family, relatives, and well-wishers. The collective support of donors helped ease the financial burden and enabled her to proceed with her treatment.
Advika is currently undergoing her treatment, and the continued generosity of supporters has given her and her family renewed hope for a healthier future. Her case reflects the life-changing impact of timely community support in ensuring that children with serious medical conditions receive the care they urgently need.
